Berlin, and Checkpoint Charlie

Betsy directed us to our hotel in midtown Berlin after dark with not one single misstep...we love you Betsy. The polizei were arresting a street person outside the hotel when we arrived...good to know the police are there when you need them. The hotel was lovely, parking was a breeze, the room was spacious (by European standards), the shower was immense and had a shower door!!! Early the next morning we set out on foot for Checkpoint Charlie and what a moving experience that was....It is simply a row of posters detailing the history of the wall. This photo is of Edward in front of a poster of Checkpoint Charlie (Checkpoint C, the third guarded entrance to Berlin). It also commerates those who died trying to escape into West Germany. What a sobering moment to really reflect on the absurdity of the wall in the first place.
We decided not to hoof it to the Brandenburg Gate and instead hopped a double decker site seeing bus.
