A typical street view.

This is a typical scene as we walked around Amsterdam. The house in the background dates from the mid sixteen hundreds.

Collectibles in Amsterdam?

It also didn't take Edward too long to find a store with collectible memorabilia....ooh la la! That is Brigitte Bardot, not the red light district.

Pastries, pastries, and more pastries

It didn't take us long to find an amazing deli/market! They even had Haagan Daz Dolce de Lece ice cream.

The view from the room

Can you believe the view!

Arriving at the NH Doelen Hotel in Amsterdam

The Doelen hotel is the oldest in Amsterdam...Rembrandt lived here for a period of time and painted the Nightwatch in room on the third floor. Other notable guests include Lilly Langtry, Sarah Bernhardt, and the Beatles. Great location, just the right atmosphere.

Saying bon voyage to Stephanie, Troy, and Libby at the airport

Saturday, May 29 checking luggage at the airport and saying bon voyage to Stephanie, Troy and Libby. After hearing about our lost luggage in Venice and anticipating a big tip, the skycap put "Priority tags" on the bags (fast forward, it worked all the luggage made it...yeh! Margie.

Last minute planning

Day 1 - Packing to leave - Saturday May 29,2010

D-Day and we are eager to get going. Last minute research shows that in fact we can take a safety razor in our carry on luggage (who knew?) A check of the temperature in Amsterdam indicates that we are in for a bit cooler weather than we anticipated, high 60F. Think I'll throw in my NC State fleece jacket. Task of the morning is to shave 6 pounds from the 76 pound big bag...maybe I can put the kitchen sink in my carry on!! Bon Voyage.
